Work on the ongoing transportation master plan in Owen Sound has been expanded to address future traffic needs in the area of Victoria Park.
The new regional recreation complex will be built starting this fall at the park.
A report from Operations Director John Johnston says the pending construction of the complex has resulted in the need for a special traffic focus on the nearby streets and avenues.
He says they specifically have to look at 10th Street East and the intersections of 7th, 8th and 9th Avenues as well as 8th Avenue and 15th Street “A” East.
Johnston says it’s likely that traffic lights will be warranted in at least one location on 10th Street.
He adds it’s possible that a new entrance to Victoria Park could be created at 7th Avenue East.
Council accepted Johnstons recommendation to expand the current 200 thousand dollar study to reflect the focus on the Victoria Park area.
It will cost another 29 thousand dollars.
The overall master plan won’t be completed until August 2010, but Johnston will have the results from the Victoria Park area beforehand.
The work is being done by transportation planning consultants HDR/iTrans Corporation.
