A man charged in connection with a series of pipeline bombings in British Columbia – and with ties to Goderich – has been released.
Anti-oilpatch activist Wiebo Ludwig was released from jail today.
According to Ludwig’s lawyer, Paul Moreau, the RCMP have not given any reasons for why they released Ludwig after arresting him Friday.
Moreau indicated at the time of the arrest that his client would be charged with extorting pipeline company, Encana, the target of the bombings.
Now he says no charges are pending and he wonders what changed in the last 24 hours for the RCMP to change their minds.
Ludwig ran the Christian Reform church in Goderich back in the 1980’s.
The author of a book on Ludwig says much of his Goderich followers rebelled against his stern ideas about the place of God in a man’s life and the role of women in a man’s household.
