The Hanover and District Hospital is going to be more accountable with how it spends taxpayer money.
The Hospital is revamping all of its purchasing policies and developing a code of ethics to meet all of the Ministry of Finances new requirements.
In light of Ontario’s recent e-Health controversy — Hospital President of Finance and Corporate Services Marnie Ferguson says this is timely project.
She notes the Hanover Hospital has never had a problem with accountability — but adds its always good to review old policies to ensure they meet new guidelines.
The province has given the Hospital until the end of March to have everything updated and in order.
Under the new rules — any government agency receiving more than 10 million dollars in government transfer payments must meet these new purchasing and code of ethics requirements.
The creation of a purchasing code of ethics is new for the Hanover and District Hospital.
Up until now, Ferguson says the Hospital has always lived by an unwritten code of ethics.
She says its now just a matter of putting it to paper.
