The Vice President of Corporate Affairs at Bruce Power is upbeat about the company’s prospects for 2010.
Murray Elston says the demand for electricity is on the rise — more than 2009 levels when units occasionally had to be taken offline.
Elston says with higher consumption during the winter season and news that manufacturing on the province is starting to pick up again — they’re committed to providing the generation required to supply Ontario’s economy.
Bruce Power will also continue its interest in Alberta — following a report in December from the province that it was open to the possibility of nuclear power.
Elston says it’s good to have that positive decision — but he says the next step is developing a business case that comes to grips with investment opportunities and demand for electricity in Alberta.
Elston says the plan in the meantime is to focus on the Tiverton site and completing the Bruce A refurbishment and hopefully load fuel into the units before the end of the year.
He says they also want to look at refurbishing Bruce Units 3 through 8.
