Safety will become a lesson Grey Bruce students won’t soon forget.
A Children’s Safety Village will be constructed at the Saugeen Conservation area in Hanover.
The mini village will feature small scale buildings, road ways, traffic lights and other such scenarios that will be used to teach children important safety lessons.
These lessons will cover everything from farm and fire safety to bike and pedestrian safety.
The safety village will be a shared venture between Bruce Power, the Bruce Grey Catholic board, the Bluewater public board and the Saugeen Conservation Authority.
Catholic school board spokesperson Patricia Morley says its still in the early planning stages and construction in not expected to be complete until May of 2011.
Even so, Morley says there is much to be excited about.
She says the interactive Childrens Safety Village will target students from Grades 1 to 6.
Injuries are the leading cause of death among children in Canada, with the vast majority of these deaths being deemed preventable.
Morley says if the Children’s Safety Village prevents one child from being injured or killed than it will be all well worth the effort.
No cost estimates yet on how much the safety village will cost.
