Saugeen Shores Mayor and Bruce County Warden Mike Smith looks optimistically to the new year.
This year, Smith is wearing two hats and although both positions can be time consuming, he said he has discussed the year with his family and they have given their blessing.
With his mayor’s hat on, Smith says he believes the town will move ahead when it comes to new construction in the residential market.
He also believes ratepayers will be looking at no increase in municipal taxes from his read so far.
Budget discussions are soon to begin.
Smith says it would have to be something major for him not to run again this year for Mayor in the fall municipal election.
He says he really enjoys being the mayor of a growing community.
As far as Bruce County is concerned — Warden Smith says it’s all about infrastructure with several projects to be completed including the Huron Terrace Bridge in Kincardine and the affordable housing project in Saugeen Shores.
Although he didn’t refer to anything specific Warden Smith hopes to see other similar projects get started in the county.
