With the cost of living in Canada hovering around zero per cent for this year, there will be no automatic increase in wages for Southgate council or staff.
Mayor Don Lewis says the Consumer Price index was up point 1 per cent in the past 12 months ending in October.
For someone earning 20 dollars an hour, it would amount to a hike of about 2 cents an hour and Lewis says it wouldn’t be worth the time and paper-work.
Lewis says following the Consumer Price Index was agreed to by staff some time ago.
Mayor Lewis tells Bayshore Broadcasting News staff will still potentially get increases under the current contract based on where they fall in the salary grid, and whether they qualify for a move up the pay scale.
