No salary hike for Huron Kinloss Council Members in 2010.
Each year, councillors normally receive wage increases given to the township’s non union staff.
This year, Mayor Mitch Twolan says members unanimously turned down the one per cent increase in pay.
Twolan says members agreed given the economic climate it was not appropriate to give themselves raises this time around.
He feels it lets residents know they sympathize with the many who have fallen on hard times and have or may be losing their jobs.
Twolan says while salaries remain the same as they were in 2009, Huron-Kinloss Council will revisit the subject one year from now.
Because it’s an election year, Twolan says it’s too early to speculate what may happen at that time.
The wage freeze was approved at council’s last meeting.
