There is still a question about the future of the former Port Elgin water treatment plant property.
The building was torn down in the fall at a cost of over 68 thousand dollars.
Community Services Director Mike Myatt says volunteers are interested in improving the look of the Port Elgin waterfront and beach area.
Myatt says they’re looking at a couple of options for the property.
But their plans depend on what Council decides in its 2010 budget deliberations.
Councillor Luke Charbonneau says the demolition of the old water plant could be a catalyst for further improvements on the waterfront.
Myatt emphasizes the group is not a municipally-controlled committee — but rather just a few interested citizens.
Their discussions are being relayed back to the town’s Parks and Trails Committee.
Myatt says there have been concerns from residents about the overall look of the Port Elgin waterfront in recent years.
He says the group of volunteers wants to be part of the solution for improving the area.
