Police are asking snowmobilers to be aware of their surroundings and to become familiar with local trails.
Collingwood OPP say they had to come to the rescue of two men who got lost on the trails yesterday and ended up on a lake in the Kolapore area.
The rear of the snowmobile then broke through the ice, partially submerging the riders.
They were able to escape the frigid water – but when they called police for help around 5:30 PM they did not know where they were.
Officers were able to use the GPS locator on the mens’ cellphone and along with the help of Blue Mountains Snowdrifters Club wardens they found the men.
Both were assessed at the scene and released with no injuries or any effects of hypothermia.
Police are reminding snowmobilers to carry a map of local trails.
They says being aware of your location could save your life during an emergency where every minute counts.
