Owen Sound Council may consider extending its moratorium on development fees into the New Year.
Developers had until the end of December to apply for building permits to be eligible for getting their development fees back when construction is completed in 2010.
Owen Sound Mayor Ruth Lovell Stanners says they already have heard from some local developers asking the moratorium be extended into to the new year.
She says council will have to decide if that is the way to go or perhaps bring in some other program that developers could benefit from.
Lovell Stanners says the moratorium did have the desired effect on construction activity in the city with a flurry of applications for building permits in the last month leading up to the end of the program.
She says the moratorium did encourage growth and council has to keep doing that in 2010 and that means more development on the cities east side.
Lovell Stanners says some people are opposed to that, but she says its necessary to generate more jobs and tax revenue for the city.
The Mayor believes there can be a good balance between more east side development and keeping the downtown business area healthy and viable.
