Canada Post has issued a request to residents in our region to do their utmost to keep their sidewalks and walking areas around their homes free of ice and snow.
Communications Officer for Canada Post Tom Creech notes we are under a significant snowfall pattern dating back to last week and looking ahead to the early portion of this week.
Creech relates clear and ice-free walking paths establish two major aspects which assist Canada Post.
One, a clear area to the mailbox assists in prompt delivery of mail & flyers.
& two, ice-free and clear walkways also reduce the number of injuries suffered by mail carriers by a significant amount.
Creech states mail carriers have up to 35 pounds of mail with them on the job and a slip while delivering mail creates a major impact if there is a slip.
He says injuries to legs from slipping and to arms from mail carriers trying to break their fall account for a large number of injuries each year.
