Cautiously optimistic is how Bruce Grey Owen Sound Conservative MP Larry Miller feels about the new year.
Speaking with Bayshore Broadcasting News, Miller says there are numerous signs that the economy is begining to pick up but he cautions there still is a long way to go before the economic downturn can be declared over.
He says to suggest other wise would be the wrong thing for him or the government to do but he says there are some positive signs and that is good.
Miller also says he is confident there will be no tax increases when the Finance Minister delivers his budget in the new year.
He says he has spoken to Finance Minister just before the Christmas break about how important is for the government to hold the line on any tax increase, or even try to reduce taxes even more.
Miller says he will be attending a pre budget session in Toronto in mid January, and once again will deliver that same message.
One thing the Bruce Grey Owen Sound MP wants to see in the new year is the continuation of the Home Renovation tax credit, which he says is one of the most positive things the Government has done over the past year.
Miller says the overwhelming feeling among his constituents is that tax credit is a great thing that the Government should extend.
While Miller sees better economic times in the next 12 months, he also warns that people and organizations will have to do some belt tighting as the government begins the process of paying down the deficit several years from now.
