The boundaries are being re-drawn in Chatsworth as the town goes from four wards to three for next Novembers’ municipal election.
Originally, council voted to change to a totally “At-Large” voting system where the mayor, deputy mayor and councillors would all be voted in by people living anywhere in Chatsworth.
That change was appealed by some residents to the Ontario Municipal Board, so Mayor Howard Greig says they came up with this compromise.
Under the new bylaw passed Tuesday — both the Mayor and Deputy Mayor will be elected at-large, and councillors will be voted in by ward.
Greig feels this is a good compromise and a few residents who opposed the original plan seemed to agree with the change.
The new voting system will be finalized after a 45 day appeal period.
Greig says this new hybrid system should allieviate some concerns.
