The Olympic Torch will make its way through Grey County and Simcoe County today — day 61 on the relay across Canada.
There will be a sunrise ceremony at 6:30 AM near the Chi Cheemaun in Owen Sound.
The torch will then hit the road at 7 AM and travel along 10th Street East, 9th Avenue East and then 16th Street East before stopping at Canadian Tire.
The flame will then make its way to Meaford, Thornbury, Blue Mountain, Collingwood (10 AM), Wasaga Beach (11 AM) and other areas before spending the night in Barrie.
Olympic snowboarder Brad Martin will board down Blue Mountain with the torch.
The CEO and Secretary General of the Canadian Olympic Committee — Chris Rudge — will also carry the torch across the bottom of Blue Mountain at 9:16 AM.
Rudge — who was in Owen Sound last night — says he is looking forward to the experience.
Rudge says everyone he has talked to about carrying the torch has been more overwhelmed than they anticipated.
While in Wasaga Beach — the torch run is expected to start at the library just after 11 AM and go down Main Street to River Road West for a stop at the RBC branch at the Stonebridge plaza and then at the Wasaga Stars Arena.
After a 20 minute visit in Wasaga, the torch passes though Elmvale and goes to Penetang and then Midland around the Noon hour.
Then it’s off to Creemore where celebrations are taking place all day.
The torch run goes through Angus, CFB Borden, Alliston and Cookstown before arriving in Barrie for evening celebrations.
The torch run is expected to be in the City around 6:15 PM for official ceremonies at city hall at 7 PM.
OPP remind you that there will be road closures in all of these communities when the torch is in town so you may find delays and might want to find alternate routes.
If you are going out to see the torch run, you’re asked to wear red and white to show your support.
