For a brief moment today the world will be watching Hanover as it welcomes the Olympic flame.
Mayor Kathi Maskell says Hanover is brimming with patriotic pride as residents prepare to welcome the Olympic Torchs arrival.
The torch is set to arrive at 1:53 PM today .
In anticipation of the torch’s arrival the town is holding a parade and Opening Ceremonies celebration at Heritage Square Park at 1 PM.
The park has been transformed into an winter wonderland with an ice podium, Olympic Throne and 27 foot ice slide.
Professional sculptors will be working hard all afternoon transforming blocks of ice to life.
There will also be horse and wagon rides and refreshments in the park as well as live musical entertainment in the Town Hall.
The torch relay will begin at 1:53 PM at the east end of Hanover by Wal-mart.
Nine torch bearers will carry the flame from one end of Hanover to the other.
Maskell calls this a momentous day for Hanover, a once in a lifetime experience.
She encourages everyone to join in the festivities as Hanover hosts the Olympic flame.
