Help is out there for people who have special needs and want to keep living in their own home.
Home and Community Support Services of Grey-Bruce offers support services to seniors and all people over the age of 18.
Shoreline Team Leader Jane Hofstetter serves the area between Point Clark and Allenford.
She says they offer a frozen meal program, friendly visiting, transportation, housekeeping, and the day-away program.
Along the shoreline — day-away is offered in both Kincardine and Southampton, where it is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The Kincardine location is at the Sutton Park Mall, and the Southampton location is at Saugeen Memorial Hospital.
Other Day Away locations include Owen Sound, Wiarton, Hanover, Meaford, and Markdale.
Day Away provides social activity and recreation for adults and seniors with varying health needs.
It also provides both the person needing the service, and caregivers with a break.
Anyone in need of services can be referred by family members, health care professionals, or even themselves.
The Day Away program costs 25 dollars for a full day, and $12.50 for a half day. The rest is funded by the Ministry of Health.
Hofstetter says once a referral is sent in, a representative goes to their home to visit with them and decide which programs and services can help them the best.
If you’re interested in the Day Away program or any of the other programs offered by Home and Community Support Services, in Saugeen Shores, call 519-797-9961, and 519-396-9555 in Kincardine.
