Two months after the Looking Forward Action centre opened in Ayton, the co-ordinator says the facility is getting a lot of use.
Mery Moyer says the Action centre was opened October 22nd, after Interforest announced it was closing down in Durham.
It is funded by Employment Ontario with some money from Interforest as well, and Moyer says they are under contract until next June, when an assessment will be made on whether to continue operating.
The Looking forward action centre is based on the Peer Helper Model — which means volunteers from Interforest who have experienced job loss themselves, help run the centre and assist other workers.
People can get access to several resources including applications for E.I, and Second career or other re-training programs.
It is located in the Normanby Centre in Ayton.
It is open Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 AM to 4 PM, on Tuesday from Noon until 8 PM and Friday from 9 AM until Noon.
