Huron-Kinloss Council wants the federal government to speed up renovation work needed at the Point Clark Lighthouse.
The historic beacon celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2009 — but is in desperate need of repairs.
Barriers were put in place to keep visitors from getting too close due to concerns over falling fragments of stone.
Mayor Mitch Twolan says Parks Canada has told them they’re still looking into the situation, which means there will not likely be any change from last year.
He says that concerns the township because the lighthouse is the number one tourist attraction — so they would like to see something done sooner than later.
Twolan says with the federal government facing economic pressure, he believes they’re putting the issue on the back burner.
However, he says the township is sending a letter to Parks Canada stating their concerns.
Mayor Twolan hopes Parks Canada will understand their concerns about safety and potential lost tourism revenue and realize something should be done.
