Owen Sound has a new family physician.
And while that’s great news for the city — it won’t reduce the waiting list any time soon.
Doctor Andrea Evoy was introduced to council Monday night and she’s already begun working in the office of Doctor Glenn Harada.
She previously worked with Doctor Alison Petrie.
She says the plan right now is to divide Harada’s practice rather than accept new patients of her own right away.
The Newfoundland native has lived for years in Montreal but says she and her husband Jim, a native of England, did not want to live in a large city.
They were attracted to the outdoor activities offered in the Grey Bruce region and Doctor Evoy says she’s excited about the opportunity to collaborate with more established physicians and other health-care providers.
The Chair of the City’s Doctor Recruitment Committee, Michele Mannerow, says she’s one of four new doctors who will begin practising in Owen Sound over the next 12 months.
Mannerow says the efforts of the Owen Sound Family Health Team to organize and to plan for the construction of a new clinic are going a long way toward attracting physicians to the city.
The Family Health Team is also planning to create a list of local residents who need a doctor, and then to match those people with physicians.
People can call a new phone number – 519-470-3030 – in the New Year to get on the list.
