A big thank you is going out to the community of Owen Sound and area from the Salvation Army.
Last week when Bayshore Broadcasting News spoke with Alice Wannan — the Community and Family Services Director of the Salvation Army — the kettle campaign had only reached 28-thousand dollars.
Wannan now says as of this morning — they are now sitting a little less than 15-thousand dollars short of their goal of 58 thousand dollars.
Wannan says since the story hit the media, the response has been overwhelming.
And the response could not have come at a better time.
Wannan says the Salvation Army has over 600 familys signed up to receive Christmas hampers this year — up 32 per cent from last year.
Well over 200 tickets have been issued for their annual Christmas dinner.
Wannan says also since the story came to light residents have come forward asking how they can help out with the dinner.
Wannan says they now have a very good chance of meeting their goal by Christmas eve.
Kettles will be in the area until 4 PM on Christmas Eve and then the totals will be tallied.
