Brockton says it needs a hosting agreement with Hanover if its going to treat the leachate from their shared Hanover Walkerton landfill site.
The leachate which is the contaminate run off from the landfill is to be treated at Walkertons Waste Water Treatment Plant.
Councilor Chris Peabody says this treatment requires expertise and possible future plant upgrades and expenses.
Because of this he says Brockton needs to be compensated.
Much like the hosting agreement Kincardine with OPG over the deep geological repository for low level nuclear waste, Peabody says Brockton needs to have some type of agreement in place.
Peabody says this agreement has to be hammered out quickly.
He says Brockton is simply giving its Water Manager the power to negotiate the best possible deal for the municipality.
As well as a hosting agreement, Brockton plans to charge a user fee to Hanover for treating the towns portion of the leachate.
