The Bruce County Planning Department has completed a set of proposed design guidelines to ensure a future attractive appearance of the Highway 21 corridor through Saugeen Shores.
Planner Kara Van Myall says it all relates to the location on the site of proposed buildings, the materials used to build them, and the landscaping.
She uses the example of a grocery store development that was considered for the south end of Port Elgin as an example of how they could be applied.
The guidelines were developed by gathering public input, including through an open house.
Councillor Luke Charbonneau has been working on the new Community Improvement Plan for Port Elgin.
He says now that they have the guidelines, the plan can be used to help make them possible.
Van Myall says the next step in the process is to have staff review the guideline document and then make recommendations to Council for implementation.
