Two historic plaques commemorating legislation that helped preserve the Niagara Escarpment are going to be set up near the Bruce Trail in Owen Sound and Northern Bruce Peninsula.
The plaques will honour the efforts of former Premier Bill Davis in enacting legislation that created the Niagara Escarpment Commission and Niagara Escarpment plan.
Shelly Petrie is with the Friends of the Greenbelt and says besides Owen Sound and Tobermory, three other plaques will be set up in other areas of the Bruce Trail along the escarpment.
Petrie these locations were chosen because that were a lot of people trek along the escarpment and will expose them to the historic move Premier Davis did back in 1973.
She says this was the first time in Canada that there was a land use plan to protect the environment as opposed to housing and development.
Petrie goes on to say introducing legislation to protect the escarpment from Niagara Falls to Tobermory really is the legacy of Bill Davis.
She says thousands of people every year will read about Bill Davis accomplishment when ever they walk the Bruce Trail.
