Bruce Power will continue to send employees to school at a former elementary school building in Kincardine.
The company will lease the old W.E. Thompson Public School building from the municipality for another ten years — starting in January 2010.
Director of Business Management for the Refurbishment Program says the facility is used for all training of contract staff who work on refurbishment project at the main site.
Hawton says they often put hundreds of people through training in one day so it’s important to have a dedicated facility.
He notes that further refurbishment work is planned, so the facility will continue to see use.
Hawton says the company has already invested in the building and keeps equipment there.
He says there is not enough space for all training to take place at the main site near Tiverton.
Bruce Power plans to spend 560 thousand dollars to keep the W.E. Thompson building up to building code standards.
And, as a bonus to the community, the company plans to donate 175 thousand dollars towards the new indoor running track at the Davidson centre — thus earning naming rights in the process.
