Building activity in Kincardine is finishing 2009 on a high note.
Building and Planning Manager Michele Barr says 15 permits worth 2.1 million dollars were issued in November compared to eight permits worth 732 thousand were issued during the same month back in 2008.
Barr says the dollar value is up from this time last year and a new multi-residential development in a former strip plaza at the corner of Durham and Walsh Streets is one of the major projects, and she notes some property owners are hoping to start building houses before the winter weather gets too bad.
Barr says 18.4 million dollars worth of construction has taken place this year, with 237 permits at the end of November.
Activity was slower this year, mostly due to the economy.
Last year at the same time, there were 312 permits worth 38.7 million.
And there’s good news for a development where construction has been idled since last January.
Barr says they’ve transferred the building permit for the property next to Boston Pizza at the corner of Highways 9 and 21 to a new owner who is building a Holiday Inn Express.
The half-built building was originally supposed to be a Days Inn, but construction by former owner, Listowel-based DHC developments abruptly ceased last winter.
Barr is pleased to see the project back on track and on the way to being finished and says the new owner plans to have the site ready for the summer of 2010.
