The Walkerton Capitals of the Western Ontario Athletic Association Senior Hockey League have signed former NHL’er Nathan Perrott.
Perrott, a graduate of Owen Sound Minor Hockey is returning to Walkerton, as he began his junior career with the Hawks of the Western Junior C League.
From Walkerton, Perrott went on to play Junior B at St Mary’s and then had stops in the Ontario Hockey league at Oshawa and at Sault Ste Marie.
In 1995, Perrott was drafted in the 2nd Round of the NHL Entry Draft by the New Jersey Devils.
Perrott made his NHL debut with the Nashville Predators in the 2002-03 season.
He also had NHL stops in Toronto & Dallas plus spent time playing in the Russian Pro leagues.
Known as a fighter, Perrott accumulated 251 penalty minutes in his NHL career.
This fall he parlayed his love of fighting into a boxing career and has had 2 professional fights.
However, Perrott indicated to the Walkerton Capitals that he intended to return to hockey and hopes to use the WOAA experience as springboard back to professional hockey.
Perrott, who resides in Toronto, has only committed to play Friday in the Capitals home game against the Lucknow Lancers.
Capitals President Charlie Cleland understands the situation, but admits he’s hoping Perrott has a longer stay with the Walkerton club and boosts their fortunes in the W.O.A.A. standings
