Bruce County wants to be really prepared in the event of an influenza pandemic—one larger than the recent wave of H1N1 flu.
The H1N1 flu pandemic has not hit Bruce County hard, but County Council and staff want to be ready if an even bigger pandemic hits locally in the future.
A full pandemic plan has been approved.
New Warden Mike Smith says it’s good planning.
He says an emergency planning excerise was recently conducted involving a mock scenario where several county staff were off sick and officials had to deal with the situation.
Smith says the exercise went really wall.
He hopes the plan never has to be used, but notes it’s there if the situation does arise.
The Warden says the recent H1N1 wave has been a learning experience.
He says the vaccination program has shown what needs to be done when making sure priority groups are properly chosen and that the vaccine reaches communities.
