There’s a loud call from our region to see an independent study on the health effects of wind turbines.
As Bayshore Broadcasting News Reporter Maggie Clegg tells us – an overwhelming majority of respondents to a Bayshore Broadcasting News poll say an independent study is needed.
85 per cent say yes, the province should pay to have a study conducted by an outside group.
One person replied there are too many reports of significant medical distress by people living near wind turbines to be dismissed without a study.
Another says increasing concern from various communities across the province show there are many unanswered questions about the safety of living near turbines.
One respondent likens the situation to the tobacco industry saying years ago that there were no health effects from smoking, while we now know much differently.
Still another says the provincial government has passed the Green Energy Act without proper independent studies and taken away the rights of its citizens.
Just 15 per cent say a study is not needed, with one respondent pointing out there are thousands of turbines up and running in Europe.
Grey Bruce Medical Officer of Health Dr. Hazel Lynn has called on the province to do a study.
And Bruce Grey Owen Sound MPP Bill Murdoch also introduced a private member’s bill to that effect in the legislature but it was defeated.
There were a total of 287 respondents to our news poll.
