Young people who contribute to their community are being honoured.
The Youth of the Month Award was created by the Saugeen Shores Youth Coalition.
Jason Cranny — a youth advisor with the Grey Bruce Health Unit — says they came up with the Youth of the Month Award because so many young people go unrecognized.
November was the first month for the award this year.
The monthly winner will receive a 100 dollar gift card from the Saugeen Shores Canadian Tire.
A coalition of both adults and youth will look at all the nominees for each month and decide on the winner.
Cranny says awards often focus on sports and academics and there are many people who don’t fit into those category’s but are still doing great work.
He says anyone can nominate a youth for the award, including other young people, moms, dads, coaches, volunteers and neighbours.
Cranny says young people can be nominated for their work with the environment, art and culture, music, brownies and scouts or anything of that nature.
He hopes to drum up more interest so there are a lot of nominations every month.
Nomination forms are available at Saugeen District Secondary School, Canadian Tire, Saugeen Shores Recreation Department and Sunlife Financial.
The nominations must be submitted before the 15th of each month.
