Despite losing yet another plant in Hanover – there is optimism when it comes to the town’s future.
Mayor Kathi Maskell says council’s main concern right now is the 89 employees about to lose their job at the Dickies Plant in the new year.
As we first told you December first, it’s closing due to a low orders in a tough economy.
Maskell wants to make sure their departure is fair and reasonable and is encouraged to hear management has plans.
She says workers will be given assistance in finding other jobs through searches and workshops like resume writing.
In the meantime, Maskell says they continue to work hard to retain businesses that are in town and to pursue business leads to attract job opportunities for residents.
The Dickies factory on 10th Avenue will close on January 26th, 2010.
This closure follows hundreds of other layoffs in recent years at Interforest in Durham, Durham Furniture and Hanover Kitchens.
