A major subdivision project is one step closer to becoming a reality in Walkerton.
In lieu of a cash payment to Brockton for not including a park in the project — the developer is going to give up one lot to allow for a 10 foot easement for pedestrians wanting to cut through the future subdivision.
Developers Greg Williams and Richard Turner agreed to the compromise after more than a dozen neighbouring residents packed Council Chambers last night to voice their concerns with the project.
The easement was only one issue — the majority of the concern centered around the fact that some of the new homes do not line up with the existing homes.
Residents say this prevents them from being able to purchase the abutting property for themselves since two properties rather than one will line up with their property.
Developer Greg Williams says it would be too costly and complicated to change the plans at this stage of the game.
The 20 acre parcel of land will be home to 63 single dwelling detached residential homes and 52 townhouse.
Williams hopes to break ground this Spring.
Under the original agreement — the developers were suppose to give Brockton a cash payment of 5 per cent of what the subdivision is worth prior to development.
However after listening to all of the concerns of residents, Brockton decided to forgo that cost for now.
The future subdivision will be located between Hinks Street and the Saugeen River just north of Cemetery Road — behind Walkerton District Secondary School.
