The new consultants for the redevelopment of Wiarton’s Bluewater Park are getting right to work.
Stempski Kelly and Associates are holding meetings with stakeholder groups this week on Tuesday and Thursday to get input on proposed changes.
Bluewater RV Sales Owner Lonnie Bray is one of those who will sit down with the consultants for a half hour session.
Bray tells Bayshore Broadcasting News he’s happy to have the appointment – but wishes more people were being given the opportunity.
Bray says he only found out about the meetings through a friend who camps at the park every year and who received a letter from Stempski Kelly and Associates.
Bray says he called the consultants right away and was given an appointment for 12:30 PM Thursday.
He says he’ll tell them he’s not against changes at Bluewater Park, but he is against the elimination of campsites.
The plans so far call for the elimination of some 50 overnight sites in order to make way for a winter storage facility for boats and a waterfront tourist information booth.
Bray feels ratepayers should also have been notified about this week’s meetings and recommends other people try to get appointments if they’re interested.
A spokesperson from Stempski Kelly and Associates says they will hold a public meeting next Thursday from 7 PM to 9 PM at the Wiarton Arena.
Town of South Bruce Peninsula council twice voted down hiring a design consultant for the project but finally approved the move last month.
Without an outside consultant, the town would not qualify for one million dollars in infrastructure funding.
