Hanover’s main street is getting a new temporary name.
From now until the end of March — Hanover’s 10th Street will be known as Olympic Way
Spokesperson Lorrie Pegelo hopes the symbolic renaming of the street will create excitement and anticipation amongst residents as the town prepares to host the Olympic flame.
On December 28th the Olympic Torch will be coming through Hanover.
Pegelo encourages downtown merchants to catch the Olympic fever and begin hanging banners and Olympic paraphernalia on their windows to celebrate.
Mayor Kathi Maskell is very pleased with the Olympic Way proclamation.
She hopes the name change will build awareness amongst residents and out-of-towners alike about the Torch visit.
On December 28th the Olympic Torch will come through: Durham, Hanover, Walkerton, Kincardine, Tiverton, Southampton, Saugeen Shores and Owen Sound as well as Meaford and Thornbury on December 29th.
