Celebrating 70 years of helping the community — the CFOS Sun Times Christmas Fund Broadcast is all set for today.
The 70th anniversary of the live radio broadcast hits the airwaves after the 12 Noon News on Sunday on 560 CFOS.
Every year the event helps raise funds to go to over 20 different charities in the area.
This year — the bar is set high as Bayshsore Broadcasting General Manager Ross Kentner says they hope to raise 70-thousand dollars.
The majority of this years funds are planned to go to the new Regional Recreation Centre in Owen Sound.
Kentner adds the history of this event is quite unique — having started by raising funds for the King’s Daughters local charity back in 1940 having a hard time raising money for their christmas baskets.
The Sun Times and CFOS teamed to start a live broadcast with local talent to raise money.
Kentner says the rest is history.
This year Kentner says there is great local talent lined up as well as some CFOS alumni broadcasters returning to the air.
Kentner says once the broadcast starts live from the Roxy Theatre in Owen Sound — you will be able to call in your donations over the phone or in person at the theatre.
The Sun Times will also be open Monday morning to continue to take pledges.
If you would like to watch the entertainment live at the Roxy it costs a quarter to get in with a donation to the food bank.
Doors open shortly before Noon and the broadcast and entertainment run until 9 PM.
Bayshore Broadcasting personalities will be on hand throughout the day.
