It’s an early Christmas for the Meaford food bank.
Golden Town Outreach Food Bank Co-ordinator Ann Pickles says a generous offer of space has come in from the Church of the Nazarene to use basement space for free, starting in January.
Pickles says while the rent is free, they are helping the Church by paying a share of the utilities.
The Food Bank was desparately searching for a new home, after the Legion in Meaford where they are located now, fell into disrepair.
Although a new legion may be built, that is a few years down the road.
Pickles says they are in the middle of planning for the move, beginning December 18th.
They’ll open at the new location, across from the post office on Trowbridge street in Meaford, on January 4th.
The food bank will still operate Monday mornings from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM and Thursday evening from 5:30 AM to 7:30 AM.
Meanwhile, a fund raising effort by Scotiabank in Meaford is going over big.
Ann Pickles says bank officials were excited Thursday when they found out over 33 hundred dollars had been raised thru donations and matching funds by the bank.
Last year, a two week drive only raised 25 hundred.
Scotiabank in Meaford is still collecting money for the food bank until the end of December, and will match donations to a maximum of 5 thousand dollars.
