People in Owen Sound and Hanover and the surrounding area now have another option if they want to get rid of old electronics.
The Habitat for Humanity Re-stores in both communities have now set up E-Waste recycling depots for people to get rid of old computers, radios, tvs and other electronic devices
Carol Potter is the manager of the Re-Store in Owen Sound and says they will collect and sort this material then ship to a central recycling agency in Toronto where it will be dismantled.
She says all this will be done here in Ontario and none of the electronics will be shipped out of the country to be dismantled.
Potter says the only thing they cant accept are the old console type TV’s because they cannot recycle the wood, or small appliances like kettles or toasters.
She says this recycling initiative is another way they can raise money for their Habitat for Humanity builds in Grey Bruce.
Potter says they already have half a transport trailer full of electronic material that will be recycled.
She reminds people who will be dropping off old computers to make sure they erase any and all information from their hard drives so there is no personal information contained in the computer.
