The snow is almost here, and Police are reminding you to get your vehicle ready.
OPP Constable Martin Hachey says it’s time to prepare now, since the weather is still half decent.
He says every car needs a good scraper and brush, and having a fully charged cell phone is vital too, in case of an emergency.
Hachey reminds people that the cell phone should only be used once you’re not driving, though.
He says having a bag of kitty litter or sand in the trunk is a good idea too, so you can use it for traction is you get stuck in the snow.
Hachey recommends having some extra windshield washer fluid in the car as well.
You should also make sure that your car is in good working condition too.
Hachey says that defensive driving if the best way to stay safe on the roads this winter.
And that means slowing down.
He says that if you do end up sliding, however, you need to look in the direction you want to go in order to hopefully stay on the road.
And he says that although new safety features on vehicles, such as ABS braking, are good additions, they are supplemental to driving well on the roads in the first place.
Hachey says the bottom line is that if you’re driving too fast, you will end up in the ditch regardless.
