A special Ontario Municipal Board pre hearing is taking place today to examine a proposed expansion of quarry in Keppel Township.
The hearing initially was scheduled to be held in the Georgian Bluffs Council chambers.
But now the location has been changed to a larger venue, the Shallow Lake Community Centre.
The hearing is scheduled to get underway at 10.30 AM today and will hear arguments for and against the proposed expansion of the Harold Sutherland Quarry located just off Grey Road 17 north of concession 10.
Area residents are opposed to the proposal because is next to an environmentally sensitive area — the Niagara Escarpment and the Bruce Trail.
Sutherland Construction wants to expand the quarry by 144 acres to extract 660 thousand tons of rock every year.
