Excessive noise from holiday parties can now be dealt with in Arran Elderslie.
The municipality recently passed a new noise control bylaw which prohibits and regulates excessive noise and associated vibration.
Mayor Ron Oswald says staff decided because there was not a municipal wide law in place and they were receiving more and more complaints, they’d rectify the situation.
Oswald says it covers everything from barking dogs, and noisy vehicles to loud parties but says agricultural machinery is exempt
He says until now, staff really had no where to go when a complaint was registered by a resident, and now they do.
He notes there are now quiet zones, and residential zones among a few and each has a different law based on need.
The noise and vibration clause could deal with construction as well, including that of industrial wind turbines.
Oswald says excessive noise in the winter caused by snowmobiles, which has been a concern as of late, can now also be addressed.
