Breaking Down Barriers has come up with a fundraiser with a difference.
The goal of the Independent Living Challenge is to get people to experience what it’s like to live with a disability.
Campaign Executive Director Andrea Kokasin says you can either be put in a wheelchair, have one of your arms pinned behind you, wear some pretty funky glasses to see what it’s like to be blind or experience what it would be like if you had numb fingers and couldn’t pick things up.
The challenge is at the current Collingwood Library on Thursday December 3rd.
December 3rd is the United Nations Day of Persons With Disabilities.
Co-chair Sandy Smardenka hopes businesses will get on board by encouraging their employees to take part.
She says it’s just like doing a charity run where you collect pledges leading up to the event.
Kokasin adds the pledge sheets are available by calling Breaking Down Barriers or going to their website.
But they will also soon be available at a number of businesses in Collingwood and Wasaga Beach that support the organization and are fully accessible.
