The organizers of Wakestock want to come back to Collingwood this year.
Events Manager with SBC Media, Todd Elsley recently made a presentation to Council on the success of last summer’s event.
Elsley says 10 thousand people came to the wakeboarding competitions and concerts at Millenium Park last August.
He says even though that number was a bit lower than they were expecting mainly because it rained on the Sunday morning, the event still brought 3 million dollars into the area’s economy.
He adds there weren’t any problems or complaints that he’s aware of.
There was some concern about holding the event in the area again after it had been in Toronto for a few years.
The last time it was in the area, was in Wasaga Beach in 2004 when hundreds of rowdy fans were arrested for drunken behaviour and fights.
Elsley says they want to change the layout of this year’s event and put in bleachers and a paved skateboard park.
The Leisure Services Department for the town supports holding the event again.
Now it’s up to council.
Town staff say a report will come to council soon with a recommendation Wakestock be held on the same weekend next year which would be August 6 to 8th.
