Affordable housing the subject of a special forum in Owen Sound.
At the table today will be representatives from Grey County, the city of Owen Sound, the Grey Bruce Affordable Housing Coalition and the Ministry of Municipal Affairs.
The forum will showcase successful community-based housing initiatives from other parts of the province.
The forum will also hear from social agencies, builders, landlords and tenants.
Grey County spokesperson Anne Marie Shaw says they hope to identify gaps and come up with solutions.
Grey County has just started a housing study and it’s hoped that will also provide direction on how best to deal with a lack of affordable housing in the region.
Shaw says however the province has recently acknowledged the need around Ontario and has implemented programs to help build new units.
In fact 34 units have just been completed in Owen Sound with funding for 26 more.
