Construction is nearly three-quarters finished on a new 1.5 million dollar Children’s Aid Society office in Wiarton.
The new 62 hundred square foot facility will house some 10 full time staff to service residents in Northern Bruce Peninsula.
Executive Director of the Bruce County CAS, Shawn Jollife says the Board of Directors decided over two years ago, that an office was need on the Bruce Peninsula since about half of their clients live there.
He says they purchased the land about two years ago and received a building permit in August of this year.
Jollife says the new office should be open in January or February of next year.
He admits the new facility will put added pressure on the CAS budget since the province is not providing any new funding for construction, but Jollife maintains no programs or staff will be cut because of money.
He adds the decision to build in Wiarton was made in different financial times.
The Bruce County CAS is facing a funding shortfall of about 300 thousand dollars.
Across the province — there is a 67 million dollar shortfall of funding for CAS operations.
