The Historic Saugeen Metis and Bruce Power have signed an agreement for future cooperation.
Bruce Power Executive Vice President Brian Armstrong says it enables the Metis community to contribute and participate in the ongoing regulatory process between Bruce Power and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission.
Historic Saugeen Metis President Jason Indoe says it means a new episode of understanding and formalizes and already strong relationship.
Armstrong says it’s the second step in the process and calls it a relationship based on respect, mutual cooperation, and trust.
In March of this year, the Metis and Bruce Power signed a similar agreement ensuring traditional territory would be respected if a new nuclear power plant was added to the Tiverton site.
However, Bruce Power has since shelved those plans.
Indoe says the new agreement is good for five years, with the understanding it will be revisited when the time is up.
