The Liberal MPP for Huron-Bruce is standing by her party when it comes to the Harmonized Sales Tax.
Carol Mitchell says the single tax reform will end up creating 600 thousand jobs and give a competitive edge to the business community, especially the struggling manufacturing sector.
As for opposition accusations that the tax is a cash grab, Mitchell says if the Conservatives and NDP sat down and looked at the math and economics studies, they would see the tax only represents a 0.7 per cent increase.
Mitchell urges everyone to do their own calculations and get the whole story before deciding if they agree or disagree with the HST.
A personal tax relief calculator is available on the Ministry of Revenue website, www dot rev dot gov dot on dot ca.
Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound Conservative MPP Bill Murdoch says the tories will continue their efforts to stall passage of the HST bill on Monday.
Last week, three Tory MPP’s were ejected from the legislature during debate on the bill.
