The Chippewas of Nawash have received a prestigious honour recognizing the innovative ways in which they use government money to improve their communities.
The Cape Croker First Nations band is one of only seven recipients of the 2009 Great Grants Awards given by the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
They’re being recognized for using provincial funding to help build a healthy, vibrant community through innovation and leadership.
The Culture Ministry says the Chippewas of Nawash along with the Saugeen First Nations Bands created an Environmental Office and initiated talks with local industries and governments about proposed development projects and their impact on traditional territories.
