There’s a new set of rules for delegations at Bluewater School Board meetings.
Starting in December, each delegation who gives prior notice that they want to speak will have ten minutes to do so.
Right now they have five minutes.
Two delegations with prior notice will be allowed at each meeting.
Two without prior notice will also be allowed, and those people will each get five minutes to speak.
Trustee Paul Wehrle is on the sub-committee that recommended the changes.
He notes other boards allow fifteen minutes and others do not allow delegations at all, so they were left on their own to decide what to do.
Wehrle says there is not only more time for delegations, but those without prior notice are actually legislated in the by-laws now.
Before they were only allowed if the Chair approved.
Wehrle adds that if the board decides to move to two meetings a month instead of one — 40 minutes for delegations will be allowed.
