Twelve families were waiting for a decision but the news was disappointing.
HGTV was looking for three different families in this area to decorate their homes for the holidays and compete against one another in a reality show to be called “Holiday Battle on the Block.”
Saugeen Shores Chamber of Commerce General Manager Joanne Robbins — who was doing the leg-work locally — has since been informed that the production budget, which includes travel, has been cut back by the network.
As a result the competition will not happen this year in Saugeen Shores.
Robbins says production will be only in the Toronto area now to cut costs.
She says producers feel badly about the turn of events but indicate Saugeen Shores will be first on the list next year if there’s any kind of a travel budget.
Meanwhile, Robbins says the interest in the plan was gratifying and she’s thinking that maybe some sort of fun competition can be set up between communities next year to build that spirit.
