It’ll be another month, likely, before Owen Sound can finally take possession of the Canadian Pacific Railway station on the east side of the harbour.
The city announced earlier this year its intention to purchase the abandoned building from the federal government, but the deal has been held up.
City Manager Jim Harrold says an easement recently granted by Owen Sound to the Ontario Heritage Trust will go a long way toward finally closing the sale of the historic structure.
Harrold expects that to happen in mid-December.
Director of Community Services Pam Coulter says the easement was a requirement of the sale.
It will commit the city to work with the Ontario Heritage Trust during any and all restoration work on the building.
The city plans to refurbish the derelict train station and is seeking interest from the private sector in terms of developing it into a viable harbourfront business.
